Every Saturday evening the school has "open gym" for the boarding students. One dorm in in charge of planning the activities for the rest of the dorms. Last Saturday was Palmgartens turn to plan the game, so we choose kick ball.
The students at Black Forest Academy are third culture kids, which means they don't understand some of the basic cultural things most North Americans know without thinking about. Kick ball was a brand new game for most of the girls. Here Luke, the Palmgarten dorm dad, is explaining the rules to kick ball. This is a first time experience to play kick ball for most of the girls.
The teams are picked and everyone is in place. The first pitch is ready, and the game begins!
Bunting the ball seemed to be a popular technique for the girls. One girl even thought it would be a good idea if she bunted the ball and then sat on it so that everyone on her team could run home! Interesting idea!
In the end, the girls had a great time, learned a new game and just a bit more about North American culture.
