Basel Marathon

The Basel Marathon was on September 12th.  Stephanie, the Palm dorm Mom, ran all 26 miles.  Tommy, a RA in Sonne (boys dorm), also ran it as well as Jill, a music teacher from BFA.  So most of the students from Palmgarten and Sonne went into Basel to cheer on their staff!

Some of the students wait for the end of the race as they lounge on the bridge that goes over the Rhein River.

Watching a marathon is a lot of patient waiting.  After walking all over the city because it was hard to find parking, we were all tired, but happy to cheer on Stephanie, Tommy, and Jill.

Tommy was the first one to come to the finish line.  His goal was to run it in 3:30, but he surprised himself  and ran it in 3:17.  He was only 82 seconds from qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

 The Finish Line

Even Santa ran the Basel Marathon...I guess he is working on losing weight.

Jill the music teacher crossed the finish line at 4:25.

The Sonne boys get comfortable in the ancient buildings of Basel.

Happily Stephanie crosses the finish line right after Jill at 4 hours and 31 minutes.  Go Stephanie! GO!!!
